2008-2009 Merrill Lynch
Consultant, Solutions Engineer

  • Principal architect for the Virtual Workstation "Americas" project, a deployment of 10,000 general purpose VDI seats, based across data centers with NAS back-end.
  • Produced detailed designs, engineering plans and budgets for the deployment of Merrill’s Virtual Workstation product and supporting infrastructure.
  • Started as the support engineer for VDI deployment at Merrill for the Wealth Management division and for affiliate companies in California, Arizona, Toronto, and Dallas. Completed VDI deployments at these and other locations. Designed additions to existing VDI infrastructure to handle changing requirements.
  • Constantly involved in the evolution of VDI standards and practices, including broker selection, ESX release migration, server upgrades, conversion from SAN to NAS and use of wide-area optimization.

2006-2007 Citigroup
Consultant, Technical Lead and Project Manager

  • Technical lead on creation and staffing of a new data center for Lava Trading, Citigroup Derivatives Markets, Inc. (CDMI), and Automated Trading Desk LLC, all subsidiary companies of Citigroup.
  • Managed configuration, deployment and subsequent support of 750 servers during initial build-out and later additions to data center.
  • Stepped in after departure of original project manager and continued to act as the organizing force between Lava Trading, Citigroup proper, electrical contractors, communications contractors and systems contractors.

2005-2006 Sterling Testing Systems
Systems Engineer

  • Created, maintained and managed over 100 production, QA and development virtual machines running on HP blade servers using VMware ESX Server and VirtualCenter.
  • Managed two EMC CLARiiON CX500 SANs. Created LUNs, zones, etc.
  • Planned the relocation of the corporate data center to new facilities at 111 Eighth Avenue.

  • Relocated S.W.I.F.T.’s office and network to 7 Times Square. Project involved reengineering their New York regional computer center and network infrastructure in a marathon move involving the smallest downtime window possible.
  • At Musa-Obregon Law, rolled out twin Small Business Servers with Exchange 2003 and BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 in order to centralize control of unmanaged devices.
  • KPMG’s Windows XP migration project – As part of a team, upgraded 720 Compaq and HP notebook PCs from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. This involved data migration using Altiris, and resulted in extended lifetimes for KPMG’s portable workstations.

2004 Amalgamated Life Insurance Company

  • Migrated Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000, then to Exchange 2003.
  • Completed migration of user base to Active Directory.
  • Rolled out BlackBerry PDAs and BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • Instituted centrally-managed anti-virus, patch management, hardware and software inventory.
  • Architected migration of file and print services from NetWare 4.11 to Windows.
  • Working with Dell, EMC and Legato, designed and implemented SAN replication between NY and NJ data centers.

  • Hired as a SIAC Development Director to head the Post Trade LAN Services group.
  • Managed a staff of five, including three other directors. The group supported production and development environments including Clearing and Settlement, Envelope Control, Data Entry and Post Trade Development and Administration. Maintained these responsibilities even after Post Trade became part of the Depository Trust and Clearing Corp. in January, 2001.
At SIAC:

  • In conjunction with a physical relocation of the Post-Trade Development and Operations departments, converted IBM OS/2 token ring environment to Microsoft Windows NT/2000 and fast Ethernet.
  • Replaced aging IBM servers with Compaq servers.
  • Implemented clustering and failover of NT servers between sites.
  • Managed the deployment and support of development environments ranging from PC COBOL to HTML and Java.
  • Co-developed a custom help desk application in Remedy with a SQL Server 2000 back-end for SIAC’s Post-Trade Clearing department.
  • Planned and managed the effort to remediate and certify all of Post Trade as Y2K compliant, including servers, network infrastructure, desktop hardware and software. Post Trade was certified Y2K compliant by April of 1999. Implemented redundant services at two standby sites in case of primary site failure on New Years Day.
  • Responsible for multi-million-dollar, multi-departmental budgets.
At Depository Trust:

  • As a manager of DTCC’s Info Center, continued to manage the production and development infrastructure at three former SIAC sites.
  • Converted server and desktop environment from Compaq to DTCC-standard Dell.
  • Implemented clustered Windows 2000 Advanced Servers.
  • Worked to develop an Active Directory design and migration plan for all of DTCC.

Network Manager

  • Designed and implemented a Windows NT based network from the ground up for the corporate office of this institutional brokerage.
  • Managed all phases of network design, from cabling and rack/patch panel selection to custom-building HP NetServers.
  • Built a team, selected PCs, arranged for user training, finalized selection of server and client software and rolled it all out. The network connected to an existing UNIX network and over a metropolitan area network to ESI’s three other sites.
  • Implemented the full Microsoft BackOffice suite of server software. SNA Server provided mainframe connectivity. Microsoft’s SQL Server on Intel and Alpha and Sybase SQL Server on SPARC managed the company’s large databases.
  • Installed Internet connectivity and integrated it seamlessly with the corporate email system and intranet.
  • Planned and implemented a technology move to a new company office, redesigning the network and re-implementing it in the process. As part of this process, we moved from a shared Ethernet environment to a switched environment.
1996 Northstar Technologies, Inc.
Consultant at CS First Boston Corporation

  • Joined a team of consultants at CS First Boston to complete the design and rollout of a 250-user trading floor network using Windows NT. The complex network consisted of over ten token rings and dozens of routed Ethernet segments. TCP/IP was the sole protocol used. IP helpering was used to direct broadcast packets for market data systems among the subnets. The multiple servers were linked together via CDDI. The new network replaced a Banyan Vines network.
1993 - 1996 Chemical Bank
Technology Officer, ChemLink Services

  • Network administrator for 150-user DEC Pathworks and Windows NT LANs with Novell NetWare, Alpha, VAX, mainframe and wide-area connectivity.
  • Expanded and supported the infrastructure for the ChemLink Services development and customer support groups. The network environment was Windows NT 3.51 servers and workstations with a DEC Alpha AXP server running Pathworks (LAN Manager).
